My TV of 2010

For long stretches of last year, I was what some might call a "dead-eyed sloth," staring at my TV for hours at a time. And it's all been leading up to thissss.....

JESSE'S RAMBLE  ABOUT TV YAYYYYYYYY

FUNNIEST HA-HA'S

7) Modern Family - Winner, Boring Prime Time Sitcom Division

Modern Family isn't groundbreaking, but it's good. There are times it's made me laugh really hard, but it's kind of forgettable. More "heh-heh"s, as opposed to better show's "ha-has".

6) 30 Rock

For me, this show is a bunch of non-sequitur gags that play in the background while I surf on the computer. Of all of the "let's do a bunch of weird shit" shows, this is far and away the best. Still, at this point, Alec Baldwin looks restless and bored and eager to run for the Senate. Once great, still really good.

5) It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

It seems every year, there are 3-4 episodes of this show that absolutely suck. Still, when they're on, they're ON. Also, pretty much everything Danny DeVito does on this show makes me laugh.

4) Party Down - A show that barely lasted 2 very short seasons, but it still had some great, funny moments. Seek it out on Netflix Instant Watch.

3) Conan - Winner, Conan Division

Conan is what he is; a big, tall, red-haired goofball. His new show on TBS is all about his wheelhouse, which is, well, his old 12:30 show. Screw it. I'm just glad to see Andy back on the couch.

2) Community - Winner, Prime Time Comedy Division

The most rewatchable comedy since Arrested Development, with a lot more heartfelt, gooey emotion. (This is why Arrested Development is the best; those characters were bastards.)

1) Louie - Winner, All-Everything Division

Pick a style of comedy. Name any tone you can think of. This show does it all. Philosophical and scatological and horrifying and uncomfortable and profane and awesome. Louis CK is now the best stand-up working AND the most unique comic filmmaker. Damn.

LEAST FUNNIEST UH-UH'S
I saw the pilot for this show on Showtime called Episodes that gave me a case of the hate-thats something fierce. And Leno, of course.

MOST DRAMATICEST HOO-HO'S

Dexter - God, this show's so dumb. The supporting cast has to be the worst in history, so naturally, half of the show spent dwelling on the useless personal lives of these dimwits, as if anybody wants to see anything other than Michael Hall disemboweling people. This year was one of their more turdy seasons, as I recall. Eh, I dunno. Who cares? WHY AM I STILL WATCHING DEXTER?

Boardwalk Empire - This is The Social Network of TV shows: Incredibly made, with great material to work with, and I could never bring myself to be as over the moon about it as other people. By the end of the season, it was getting better, but the first half of the season was a bit of a chore.I still contend that Steve Buscemi was wildly miscast.

The Walking Dead - BLURRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHH.

Lost - Went from being a show I felt everyone needed to see to a show that I hesitate to recommend in its final season. Way to go, show.

Mad Men - Another amazing season. YAWN. This one may have been the best one yet. Re-watching the first season recently, it's amazing how much this show has changed and evolved. This show has to be considered part of the Sopranos/Wire/Deadwood pantheon. But still, it wasn't nearly as good as

Breaking Bad - Season 3 of Breaking Bad was one of the best seasons of television ever broadcast, second only to . . .

Winter Wipeout! - Rife with symbolism and oozing with portent, Winter Wipeout! recently debuted, and we were all different as a result. While, Breaking Bad was television drama at its' best, Winter Wipeout! has made us a better society.
