"Buried"

I have nothing against Ryan Reynolds. In fact, I have no feelings whatsoever about Ryan Reynolds, which is Ryan Reynolds' big problem. Seriously, do you care about Ryan Reynolds? Do you ever think to yourself, "I wonder what's up with Ryan Reynolds today", like you would with, say, William Fichtner.  Here's my reaction to a film trailer I see that prominently features Ryan Reynolds: "Oh look. There's Ryan Reynolds. Or is that Dane Cook? No? Oh. K."

However, Buried had an irresistible premise that I wanted to check out: Reynolds wakes up buried in a coffin, and armed with nothing but a Zippo and his cell phone, he has to find out what's going on. For the length of the film, we're inside the box with Reynolds. The opening is unbelievably intense, all in darkness as we hear panicked breathing. It also has a powerful ending, as I recall.

See, that's the thing: I have no memory of the second act of Buried. I think he called his mom, and terrorists threatened him a lot, and I recognized Stephen Tobolowsky's voice during a few cell phone calls. (Ryan Reynolds' battery holds up remarkably well throughout the film.). I couldn't tell you the twists and turns of the story at gunpoint. At one point, I read a magazine for about 15 minutes. In fact, Buried is a neat summation of Ryan Reynolds' career so far: No hard feelings, and I like some of it okay, I think, but I honestly don't remember.
