Kevin Rogers Got A Raw Deal

With Tracy Morgan's apology here in Nashville a few days ago, The Great Tracy Morgan Homophobic Rant Scandal slowly draws to a close, with Morgan and GLAAD both getting much-needed publicity that will hopefully pull them out of obscurity. But what of Kevin Rogers, the guy that wrote his honest opinion on his Facebook page and was greeted with a publicity shitstorm? I think it may take a while for Kevin's life to get back to normal.

The other day, I attended a Photoshop seminar for work, and also in attendance was one Kevin Rogers, whom I recognized from his appearance with Chad Riden on an interesting episode of a local news show that discussed the incident. It was a very interesting hour, and not just because my friend Mark called in as Walter Cornish, a character from a podcast I did many moons before my new one:

I have huge sympathy for Rogers, who's been getting crap ever since he had the nerve to write about how he felt about Morgan's comedy (which, by the way, is only good when Tina Fey writes it). I walked over to Kevin (who bears a stunning resemblance to Nashville smart-ass Rob Haynes) and introduced myself, mentioning that I did comedy with Chad way back when.

"Meeting Chad was one of the good things that came out of this," Kevin said, which should tell you how terrible the situation is. (TAKE THAT CHAD! HAHAHAHA....oh, sorry.)

I asked Kevin if he was still getting threats, and he looked really depressed as he told me, "I'm the most hated man in Nashville." Apparently, the constant bombardment from anonymous Internet douches was and is still ongoing, which I find to be depressingly shitty. Sometimes the Internet really sucks, filled with roving hordes of pricks that are eager to kill time by ruining someone's life.

I told Kevin to hang in there and slapped him on the back, which was really awkward because I suck at doing that stuff. Kevin, wherever you are, I hope this crap ends for you soon, and I hope the people that have sent you bile these past couple of weeks all contract terminal diseases, and soon. Judging by the photo above, Kevin's capacity for forgiveness is probably greater than mine.

Im torn as it seems both guys are being simultaneously screwed by and embodying the first amendment.

Are both opinions polarizing. Yes. Do they both have all the right in the world to express their opinion. Yes. Do they now have to deal with the consequences of doing so. Yes.

I think they both are learning that maybe you should consider what you are saying and who is going to hear it.

They also have some how found a way to make me feel a Lennin level of liberalism at the same time as a Glenn Beck style conservatism. This has to be what a stroke feels like, minus the comforting scent of toast.

I think Kevin's hurt more in the longterm, since he's not used to it. Tracy savors the notoriety that Kevin Rogers wasn't even seeking.
